::Microsoft to set up MSN Philippines soon

Friday, November 28, 2003

MICROSOFT Corp.'s online portal -- MSN (Microsoft Network) -- is set to launch MSN Philippines that aims to target the growing population of Filipino online users as reported by Erwin Lemuel G. Oliva of Philippine Daily Inquirer (Inq7):
  • In Asia, MSN currently has specific portals for China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, and Taiwan.
  • MSN has localized versions available globally in 38 markets and 20 languages.
  • MSN has currently more than 350 million users worldwide.
  • Microsoft: There are 164,391 active unique users of MSN Instant Messenger service in the Philippines.
  • Microsoft: There are 483,528 MSN Hotmail active accounts that are registered to Philippine-based subscribers.
  • The Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company will be the first MSN Philippines pioneer advertising partner (according to Claro Carmelo Ramirez, senior vice president of PLDT).

I have one Hotmail and 2 MSN accounts but I seldom use them because of security flaws and spam mailers disappointed me. Besides, since the latest MSN version of Messenger had been installed in my PC, I had problem logging in. I was not sure if it was blocked by my firewall or because I run it on win98 OS.
