::Today is Friday, the 13th !!

Friday, June 13, 2003

Paraskevidekatriaphobics - these are the people afflicted with a morbid, irrational fear of Friday the 13th! Throughout history we seem to have disliked the number thirteen (the Devil's Dozen), even more so when this date falls on a Friday and this 'unlucky' day has entered into popular myth and legend. However bear in mind that to the ancient Vikings Friday was one of the very best days of the week to get married as the Godess of Love and Fertility was believed to be most active on this particuliar day! On BBC News newsletter:

[TODAY] "The UN Security Council has granted US peacekeepers another year of immunity from prosecution by the International Criminal Court (ICC) by 12 votes to none."

[3 DAYS AGO] "In the aftermath of the Iraq war, you can almost hear the buck being passed between political leaders and their intelligence advisers.

There are two main issues.

  1. The first is whether the British and US Governments exaggerated ("sexed up" in the words of one unnamed source) the basic intelligence on Iraq weapons in order to justify a war.
  2. The second is whether the intelligence was wrong in itself.

Iraq weapons: Where does the buck stop?

Here in the Philippines, Filipino lands second place in World MS Office Olympics.. Inquirer says, "A THIRD-YEAR student of the De La Salle College of St. Benilde bagged the second place in the international finals of the Microsoft Office Olympics, according to officials of Microsoft Philippines. Efren Andrew Abueg, the country's representative in both the Microsoft Word 2002 and Microsoft Excel 2002 categories, won over 33 national champions from 17 countries."

Congratulations Efren Andrew Abueg!!!

On Infotech Mobility news, "Nokia is also expecting growth to come from the imaging market. The company has also entered the WCDMA market (a third generation mobile phone technology standard), shipping its first WCDMA phone and would be selling the Nokia 6650 GSM/WCDMA mobile phone to selected operators this June. It said that the company is on track to achieving its targeted 35 percent market share in WCDMA networks."

Meanwhile, the countdown begins prior to my interview next Friday. Since I will be away for two years, the kids and I are busy coordinating fixing things here at home, raising issues that need to deal with while I am away, who will be in charge of finances and bills, and so on. I know they are very excited to live on their own without me nagging them instructions on what to do on their everyday lives but, let me see if they can handle the household without me.

Happy Friday, the 13th to all!!! TGIF...
