Since we moved here in Quezon City last April, we had SkyCable connected only yesterday afternoon. So, I was excited to watch Channel 21's Live Coverage on what's going on at the Batasang Pambansa where Fernando Poe, Jr.'s lead counsels, former Commission on Elections Chair Harriet Demetriou and former Immigration Commissioner Rodriguez, had been charged with kidnapping an election officer on Basilan island. The said election officer was formerly KNP's witness on massive cheating in the said area. Brillantes denounced the filing of the charges "dastardly acts of political harassment."
"If you are going to scare our lead lawyers, please don't," Brillantes told the committee. "If this is going to be done to our colleagues in the profession, then allow us to withdraw."
Kidnapping case is non-bailable in the Philippines.

Meanwhile, the 22-man (11 senators and 11 congressmen) Joint Committee is breaking their own Canvassing Rules:
Under the approved rules, the joint committee will canvass votes eight hours a day from Monday to Friday at the House of Representatives.
ach candidate shall likewise be entitled to attorneys who shall serve during the entire canvassing proceedings.
A joint committee shall be created, which shall upon determination of authenticity and due execution of the certificates of canvass, preliminary canvass the votes for president and vice president.
Let me know you were here, your thoughts are welcome!
Thank you, Randy, for the efforts. However, the Canvassing of votes resumed even on a Saturday, which is against their Canvassing Rules.
Once Arroyo is proclaimed as the President of the Philippines, it will take years to investigate anomalies of the election fraud. Shared forces are there to stop Fernando Poe, Jr. from taking the presidential post in spite of victory in the recently held May 10 Election. For the highly educated, wealthy, and business sectors, POE is like a nightmare to the Filipino people.
What is surprising here, who are these powerful people to prevent the true mandate of the majority of the Filipinos to seat POE as the new President of the Philippines?
I did not vote for POE but, who am I to stop him if he is the one duly elected by the Filipino people?
I have no gain here except that I want the next leader of the Philippines legitimately serve us for the next six years.

Hey, Afonso, let me know if your blog is up again, ok? Wish all is well with you...
I'm going to be out most of the day today as I have to teach my PowerPoint class, and then go to a baptism. When I get back late this afternoon, I'll check the status of some blogs I am trying to get your message posted on and send a few e-mails out. Hopefully we'll get the ball rolling on this today and by Monday we'll see this at least it the network news here in the US.
Wow...seems like I lost something here. Laila, if it helps, as soon as the blog is up again I will mention your post. Meanwhile I think you should collect the most possible evidence...
It looks like I hit these guys a little late so lets see what happens tomorrow. Lee hasn't posted anything since 10 and I know Paul hits the pit early. Speaking of hitting the pit, that's where I'm going. If these guys bite, It will be throughout the internet tomorrow and then it can't help but ne recognized by the International Media. See you tomorrow,
Well I have sent off e-mails with the post to a few popular websites and we'll see what happens. Like I said, Stand by fo5r a few visitors if this gets posted.
That's big help, Randy, if international media will flock the Philippines and cover the canvassing of votes at the House of Representatives. Without the opposition lawyers presence, the credibility of the canvass result is under question...
I do not know what might gonna happen in the next days to come because according to protesters, all possible places for people to gather are heavily guarded by police forces, even their intention was to pray only for peace.
The current government is playing safe that the strategy of MASS STREET PROTEST which they used to oust Pres. Extrada from his presidential post will not be used against them by any one.
Well, as most of us ober here have seen anything in the press, some of the folks I post this with may have a few questions about it. Stand by for at least a flood of folks at least wanting tio know what is going on.
They do not necessarily come to this site, Randy. All I want is for international community to focus on internal political situation here in the Philippines. Those lawyers who have been harassed yesterday were former Commission on Elections Chair Harriet Demetriou and former Immigration Commissioner Rodriguez. They're not simple citizen like me. There's so much injustice happening in this country. All I want is international media monitoring of the canvassing, since the opposition lawyers withdrawn their services, the credibility of the canvassing is under question right now and should be stopped until both parties agreed on mutual terms - to verify the authenticity of the COC.
Ok, just wanted to make sure. You can check out the test of my post, I will run it through spellcheck over in the forum. Hang out on your site today because you may get a few visitors.
I am not a politician nor connected with any groups or individual. This is my constitutional right to uphold and respect the mandate of the Filipino people, which we exercise that right on May 10, 2004 Election. The massive cheating, deflated/inflated of votes between two leading presidentiables, Arroyo and Poe, and many other anomalies are somewhat enough grounds for the Filipino people to rise up and seek for true winner. The current administration should respect the mandate of the majority of the poor Filipino people and not the mandate of few rich, influential, and powerful people in this country. We want to change the current government, but they want to stay in power for another six years!!!
Even Neil H. Cruz editorial yesterday - http://www.inq7.net/opi/2004/jun/18/opi_nhcruz-1.htm - should be enough to awaken the Filipinos on what is the real score, why the canvassing is so slow and why until now, many complaints have not been given any action nor they start the investigation.
Oh and by the way, I forgot to metion Michelle Malkin. She is a Philippino American, very popular here in the states and has a column read by millions. She is also linked from my site. She is a big proponent against illegal immigration in this country and has a brilliant and respected mind. You might fire off an e-mail to her also. She has a huge following and is a featured guest on several cable/satellite news outlets.
I do not mind at all, Randy, not all we read in newspapers are true coverage of the actual happenings here in the Philippines. I have heard that Channel 5 got a warning for airing the sides of the opposition. In fact, even lawyers of the oppositions were harassed for a crime they never committed. Anyone who talk wrongdoing agaist the Arroyo government, some were charged with sedition or destabilization. The military scholars who revealed corruption within the military are all in jail. The legitimate president, JOSEPH ESTRADA, who was elected by the majority of the Filipinos in 1998 is also jailed for alleged money laundering which until now, they cannot prove, as the content of the second envelope, showed that the account was not under his name.
Sometimes, I was asking myself, if this current government we have is run by mafia-like syndicate... using intelligence and resources for their personal interest, instead of national interest and for the interest of the entire Filipino people.
I left you a proposed "what I will send to the buddies message over in the blogshare instant messenger". If you like it let me know or if it needs some changes let me know. If i can get this out before 11 my time it will take off tonight. It is only 9:45 now.
I agree, this needs some international exposure. I haven't heard a peep, on any of the national news about it, and also since San Diego has a huge Philippine Community, I would figure I would have heard something on the Local News. Maybe you should sent an e-mail to Matt Drudge, Sean Hannity, or maybe even Bill O'Reilly or Rush Limbaugh. They are all media watchdogs here in the states, and thier websites are monitored worldwide. Also Joseph Farah of World Net Daily might be a good place to get some attention. Other than that I don't really know what you could do. If I were you I'd get a few internet freinds familiar with what has been going on and start an e-mail campaign to the folks I mentioned above. One will pick up on the story, and I have links to all on my website. I will be posting something about this on my site tonight and linking with a few more sites that I hang out on to explain what I know of the situation. I hope it helps. If we could get one major press guy interested and get this out into the international press it would be great. I hope you don't mind if I link a few visitors over to your website. I won't do it until I have your ok.
There was a failure of election. Election boxes were massively switched, Certificate of Canvass (CoC) were fraudently tampered, YET the Joint Committee wanted to canvass votes without verification of CoC authenticity.
They're making the rules which they're the first one to break, and for them, those were tolerable as far as "national interest" is concerned. Which is unbelievable because right now, the Philippines is under an embarassing situation. It's 39 days had passed since the last May 10 election and yet the true winner will not be proclaimed due to switching of votes in the CoCs, as allegedly complained by the opposition.
We need monitoring by international media to uncover the truth.
Wow, sounds serious over there. Brings me back to the days of Ferdinand and Emelda Marcos. I sure hope they get this all solved. The Philippine people have suffered from these types of election fraud and abuse far too many years. I remember when Corazon Aquino was elected and thought that the Philippines was on the road to a true democracy. I haven't kept up with the politics there for years, but it seems like history is starting to repeat itself with fraud and corruption again. I hope the press will continue to report this and get this out into the International News Market. If it were not for your blog I wouldn't have known that the Philippines even had an election recently.
