::Spyware

Windows XP is infected with spyware virus and we cannot use internet explorer anymore nor run windows update. The malicious virus redirected all URLs to download spyware and ad aware softwares.

I suspected Paul Denise got this virus when he downloaded some ringing tunes two weeks ago.

I had difficulty running any programs, like Yahoo! messenger for example, that's associated with internet explorer because three popup windows launched uncontrollably each time someone sent me a message.

Glad I am using Mozilla browser for surfing and Trillian messenger to communicate!

butterfly Let me know you were here, your thoughts are welcome!

It's quite annoying to have popup alerts wanting me to download a spyware software. I inquired with friendly computer techies at Starapple Computers and they advised me to reformat HDD to thoroughly clean the infected system.

This worm virus is indeed causing harm to all household.

I feel your pain. I have spent A LOT of time recently getting rid of spyware. I really don't know where it's coming from, which is one of the frustrations. I've downloaded the most recent version of AdAware, Spybot, WinPatrol, and SpyBlaster. Not to mention HijackThis, which is pretty advanced.

I *think* I have it all taken care of, but I'm not sure. Spyware is suddenly an awful problem.

You might try the new version of Ad Aware
Ad Aware SE 1.05 Free for non-commerical use. It came out mid-September. The link is:

It works fine on W98/SE/XP

Another good one is Spybot, but there are some problems
with it and XP SP2.
