::Coffee Alamid

Thursday, October 21, 2004

Are you a coffee lover like me? Would you like to try Coffee Alamid, one of the most expensive coffee in the world, which can be found in the Philippines (and, also in Indonesia)?

Kape Alamid

24 Oras' Jessica Soho reported this evening that in 2003, Coffee Alamid had total production of about 250 Kg. only from all over the world and it costs about US$300.00 per kilogram!

Kape Alamid

This world's most priced coffee was made from the beans found in the droppings of the Philippine civet, a cat-like nocturnal mammal closely similar to the mongoose!

Kape Alamid

The beans, which are swallowed, digested, and passed out whole by the animal, are gathered from droppings found at the farm. These beans are then filtered, dried under the sun for several days and then roasted for 7 hours. *

Knowing that Coffee Alamid was made from civet's droppings, would you want to try it someday, if available?

Photos were taken from Channel 7's 24 Oras News Feed.

Hi! I am also currently doing my undergrad thesis and I would like to feature Coffee Alamid. If it is still possible, do you still have them in your archives - the one with the news feature of Jessica Soho or other vital data regarding this very rare, expensive and unique process of coffee culture?

Thanks!

Which screen captures you're talking about?

I used Creative PC Cam 750, a digital webcam, to capture my images while I have a LifeView TV Tuner (video card and software) installed in my PC.

To capture news video footage, you have to connect a CATV to your PC, run the program, press PRINT SCREEN (to capture). Then, open any graphic softwares like PSD or PaintShopPro, to paste the image. Cut the selected image, paste it as new image, reedit, then save.

That simple...

Posted by: Laila* on November 19, 2004 11:49 AM

how did you get those screen captures?

Posted by: wayne dell on November 19, 2004 10:00 AM

I live in Indonesia.... home of Kopi Luak (the same thing). We never buy it because it is usually either diluted with normal beans or contains no poop beans at all. So, since Alamid evidently has a certification program, how do we find it in Indonesia and/or how do we get Kopi Luak certified?

Hi! Where can I get this coffee? I want to purchase.
I will appreciate it if you can give me an idea where I can buy this kind of coffee. Thanks!

Posted by: Deanne on October 28, 2004 04:00 AM

I'm looking for this coffee alamid or Kopi Luwak a long time. If this really made through the Civet, I'ld consider
to buy some, or even import to Taiwan.

Posted by: Lee on October 27, 2004 06:40 PM

Hi Laila. Hmmm. nice blog. I'm a coffee lover too, used to work with the coffee research project of the government. And I think that this is really an exotic coffee that commands high price in the market. But we still have to set standards on processing/roasting those coffee beans. So that we can produce a really good quality coffee that we can market abroad.

Posted by: lau on October 25, 2004 03:20 PM

Whatever... I'm a coffee lover and my day is not complete without it.

Posted by: Laila* on October 25, 2004 12:17 AM

I prefer to focus on the 7 hours the beans were roasting...LOL

Posted by: Afonso on October 24, 2004 03:38 PM

As for me, I love to try it but, they should not tell me it's alamid until I drink it. The news didn't mention, however, how do they serve it, with creamer, mocha, or with fresh milk?

Posted by: Laila* on October 23, 2004 02:46 PM

I think it can only be find in speciality shops. But I have my doubts. Portugal is small market...so not everything is made available. But you sure made me wish to drink a cup of Alamid. :)
Preferably, in good company, like yours. Maybe one day.
When I win the euromillions...LOL...

Posted by: Afonso on October 22, 2004 11:26 PM

Exotic is one word you could use to describe it. I guess their marketing slogan could be "Don't Think . . Just Drink"

:)

Posted by: Lisa on October 22, 2004 04:09 PM

That's exactly my point, Lisa. I was just wondering what made those people find out they could enjoy coffee and make money from civet's droppings... kind of exotic?

Posted by: Laila* on October 22, 2004 12:54 PM

I'm a HUGE coffee lover - - I'm just trying to decide if I could get past the civet droppings thing! lol

Posted by: Lisa on October 22, 2004 02:55 AM

You should also try Batangas Coffee in the Philippines :-)

Posted by: Laila* on October 22, 2004 01:42 AM

The only asian coffee I ever tasted was from East Timor...
