Wire Tapping ScandalWednesday, June 15, 2005In behalf of the Filipino people, I'm hereby asking GLORIA MACAPAGAL ARROYO to please tell us whether it was her voice on the tape as GMA7's 24 Oras and Inquirer.net reported: ![]() PAMPANGA Representative Juan Miguel "Mikey" Arroyo, the elder son of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, yesterday took a leave of absence for an indefinite period amid the raging Jueteng' scandal, I was wondering if the president would initiate the same assuming it was the President on the wire tapped CD recording. ![]() CALLS have mounted for President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to publicly declare if it is indeed her voice that is on a supposed tape about alleged fraud in the May 2004 elections, or the issue will remain a ticking bomb for her. ![]() Hello Garci CDs had been given away for free in Baclaran area to passersby. Holder of the CDs were invited in Police Station later. Related stories and opinions:
"Hello, Garci" ringtone and jokes are spreading fast between cellphone users. I do believe it was the voice of the president, based on the online Debate poll I submitted on June 9th. So? Everyone heard the president cheated in the last May 2004 Election. What are we going to do now? Is there a syndicate running the Philippine government? Where are the intelligent poeple in this country? Posted by: diorella on August 25, 2005 02:00 PM Adam, I respect your opinion but don't say I was wrong. I am entitled to my own opinion and so are you. This is my blog and don't say I am wrong. Otherwise, blog your thoughts about politics and protect PGMA... I had my own observation which I didn't put into writing. Whatever you say won't change my mind about Gloria. Someone out there is behind all these. I'm watching... Posted by: Laila* on August 16, 2005 04:37 PM In this age of supercomputers, cellphones and GPS, it is so trivial to manipulate one's voice to sound like another person. Have you people ever thought of that? And yet here you are, jumping into conclusions, joining rallies to oust the President just because she admitted that it was her voice on the tape? Have you ever thought that she might be cornered? That she indeed had a conversation with an election official, but never said anything to influence the voting result? Why would they wire-tap the conversation in the first place? Is there a conspiracy going on to incriminate the President to something she would never do? What happened to "not guilty until proven otherwise?" I say that we keep our mouth shut and look at this situation very closely. Rushing into conclusions just because you hear this and that is not only idiotic, it is not helping the country we so much love for. And you said you want what's best for the Philippines? Are all these rallies truly helping our country? A lot of these rallyists are blaming the current administration for our dwindling economy. But this has been an issue ever since President Aquino's term. Admit it, our economy has never recovered after the first EDSA Revolution -- it's getting worse. But they musn't single-out the government as the culprit. They shouldn't blame the government because they're not working hard, they're lazy, they sell their votes to corrupt officials, or get paid for joining these rallies. And when their roads are not fixed, their schools are not finished, or they don't have jobs, they **BLAME** the goverment??? Now they want to remove President Arroyo and replace her with who?? Susan Roces?? They want an actress for our President?? They have to be kidding! What's really disappointing is that I see some officials in these rallies. I didn't work and pay my tax money so I can see them in rallies. Instead of doing their jobs as we've hired them to do (remember, we've voted for them; we put them there) they're out there spending our tax money to fuel more disruptions to peace and progress of our country. Shame on them. I would remember their faces and they would never get my vote next time. Posted by: Adam on August 16, 2005 03:42 PM Pardon for the double post below. I feel the need to repost this old comments on "United to Oust GMA" here. Thank you. ******* Susan Roces is an actress. She has no political background or has been to college to study politics and government. If President Arroyo is ousted through this so-called "People Power" rally then our country would be in a great great turmoil. Sure, Roces may have good intentions for our country. But really when it comes to our Constitution and helping our economy, her knowledge is inadequate, and thus she'd end up relying on her advisors most of the time when making decisions. The keyword here is "relying." I believe that's going to happen if she becomes president as she has absolutely no clues about our laws and our political system. She would rely on her advisors and they can easily manipulate her. I am not against Roces; I just don't support the idea of appointing someone as our country's President when that someone's qualification falls short in many ways. This is basically like hiring a person to do a specific job. If you want to hire a doctor, you'd probably go through the trouble of checking whether he's been to a medical school and has had some kind of experience because he'll be dealing with people's lives. Now, how much more for the position of being the President of our country, whose decisions affect the very lives of each and every Filipino breathing today, would you hire an actor? We don't need another actor/actress to be the President of the Philippines. Haven't we learned anything with Estrada? Those people in Manila rallying to oust the President must have someone better to replace her with -- picking Susan Roces is the dumbest choice. Personally, I don't see a better replacement for President Arroyo. She has good political backgrounds. Back in the 80s she was appointed Underscretary of Trade and Industry by President Aquino. Authored 55 laws on economic and social reforms during her Senatorial time in the early 90s. She was named outstanding Senator several times. Her father, the late President Diosdado Macapagal, was a great President. During his time, our country was in great economic progress -- we were 2nd only to Japan in Asia. President Arroyo is a magna c*m laude graduate of Assumption College and holds a master's and a doctorate degrees in Economics from the Ateneo de Manila University and the University of the Philippines, respectively. She's been to Georgetown University and had always been in the Dean's List there. In high school, she graduated valedectorian at Assumption Convent. In short, she's an exceptional person; it would be ridiculuous to replace her with someone like Susan Roces. I say NO to "GMA to RESIGN NOW" and YES to "KEEP GMA IN OFFICE!"
I also want to say that there are millions of Filipinos who support President Arroyo and her cause for a better Philippines amidst all the rallies in Manila. She's absolutely right during her SONA, progress can be achieved if only we stop hindering it with the "burden of our own making." Those rallies are affecting our economy. This is probably the reason why our peso dropped significantly over the past several years. Rallies here, there, everywhere. Just when do Filipinos learn to stop complaining about the little things and work hard? Maganda na ang ekonomiya nung hindi pa lumalabas ang wire tapped conversation... kaya lang naman pinapalaki yang issue ng wire tapped conversation, its because the other officials wanted to take charge the position of the president... have you not think??? kung wala yang wire tapped conversation, maganda na ang ekonomiya natin.. kaya lang naman bumabagsak, its because of the people who cant do anything but to rally... yang mga rally ang nagpapabagsak sa ating ekonomiya... think about it,, our president is still our last best hope.. we cant do anything,, cya na ang nakaupo sa position.. the best thing that we can do is to support her and help her making the philippines a better place to live on...
