Here’s Miss International 2005 Precious Lara Quigaman’s winning answer.

Question: “What do you say to the people of the world who have typecast Filipinos as nannies?”

Answer: “I take no offence on being typecast as a nanny. But I do take offence that the educated people of the world have somehow denigrated the true sense and meaning of what a nanny is. Let me tell you what she is. She is someone who gives more than she takes. She is someone you trust to look after the very people most precious to you – your child, the elderly, yourself. She is the one who has made a living out of caring and loving other people. So to those who have typecasted us as nannies, thank you. It is a testament to the loving and caring culture of the Filipino people. And for that, I am forever proud and grateful of my roots and culture.”

MS. LARA:

GREETINGS!

CONGRATULATIONS!

I am so proud of you, your determination and FAITH IN GOD. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK. As God says in Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans that I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you , plans to give you hope and a future.

I believe you have a "Personal Relationship" with God? I mean your Born Again Christian right? I have watched MAGPAKILANMAN tonight and I was blessed on how God have been so faithful to you and to your family as well. I'm quite sure that after your victory, Filipinos and even other nationalities who are working as nannies and caregivers, are now taking great pride in their chosen role for humanity! I hope that Filipinos, esp. our leaders, would make you as an example of the true values and heritage of our people. I know that if every Filipino would try to emulate your dignity, and if our leaders would know your stand on the true meaning of service and put it into practice, then our country would become the great nation that it was meant to be... Mabuhay ka Lara at ang lahat ng mga Pilipino!!! Long live the Phillipines!!!

CONGRATULATIONS to Ms. Precious Lara for winning the Ms International 2005 award!
My sister who works as nurse in the US emailed to me your winning answer to the question. You gave an intelligent, realistic, dignified, and brave answer!
You made every Filipino proud of our heritage and culture and we are very proud of you. May God continue to bless you and your family.

You nailed it, girlfriend; I am a nurse in the U.S., just like yoour Mom in the UK; At first I looked at the question as degrading because they would not dare ask Ms Oklahoma about being Ms. White Trash or Ms. Okee, but you had a dignified answer to what was otherwise a demoralizing question; for that I am sooooo very proud of you, your parents ought to be proud of the kind of person you are now; To me you shine inside out. I showed my 13 yr old daughter, who was born and raised in the US, because the question was actually a reality that was brought out in the open that she might not be aware of, and the smart girl that she is said that, "Mom you were right. It comes off as a degrading question that awoke me to the fact that this is really going on, and that Ms. Quigaman actually made sense, in that I will forever be proud of being a Filipino, if being a Filipino means being a wholesome person who cares for the least and most fortunate people, then I am proud to be one of them. " I am proud of my daugter and I am like the rest of the Filipinos, baby, I am so proud of you, you can come to my house anytime.

Dear Lara,

I plan to print out your awesome and very inspiring answer to such a sensitive question, and share to fellow countrymen here in Taipei. You gave a such a wonderful answer that could only come from an enlightened heart. You set such a good example to all Filipinos, young and old, that is, to be proud of our great culture.

I've not watched the pageant on TV. Just read the news from the paper. I thought it was just one of those pageants. I didn't know it was one of a kind! A momentous event for all of Filipinos, who have lost the morale because of the lingering political, economic and even morality crisis.

Congratulations! May the Holy Spirit continue to guide you in making a difference in this world.

Savor the winning, shining moment of the FILIPINA.....

Ms. Precious Lara Quigaman recently won the Ms. International 2005 Title.

This is her spiel: "MABUHAY! representing the democratic and freedom loving people of the pearl of the orient, i am precious lara quigaman, from the beautiful country of THE PHILIPPINES"

And this is her winning answer to the question: "What do you say to the people of the world who have typecasted filipinos as nannies?"

A: "I take no offense on being typecasted as a nanny. But i do take offense that the educated people of the world have somehow degenerated the true sense and meaning of what a nanny is. let me tell you what she is. she is someone who gives more than she takes. She is someone you trust to look after the very people most precious to you - your child, the elderly, yourself. She is the one who has made a living out of caring and loving other people. so to those who have typecasted us as nannies, thank you. it is a testament to the loving and caring culture of the Filipino people. And for that, i am forever proud and grateful of my roots and culture."
