GMA7's 24 Oras featured on their news segment about Philippine Medical Tourism Program, a private-public initiative aimed at attracting international patients to the Philippines for needed medical care which was created through Executive Order No. 372 by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo last October 2004.

medical tourism

Philippine Medical Tourism website defines medical tourism as a trend wherein citizens of wealthy nations in the west and the middle-east travel to other countries for medical and healthcare services along with rest and recreation. It is the result of skyrocketing private medical care in the United States, as well as long waiting period in the national health systems of some European countries. It is also the product of improved medical skills, technology, and facilities in the developing world.

Ahhh... as far as I know, more and more Filipino doctors shifted to Nursing to get higher pay. Also, I am worried about special treatments by doctors given to international patients.

This will cause bitterness to many of us who cannot afford/compete with foreign patients...

Wow, it looks like she is doing something good for a change. This should bring some capital to the islands. Now will the people see improvement in living conditions or will the people in government just line thier pockets with the new source of money? I guess time will tell.
