$365 M Powerball Prize

Thursday, February 23, 2006

I felt a sudden sadness when I received CNN Breaking News in my INBOX that says: "Eight workers at a meat processing plant in Nebraska are the winners of a record $365 million Powerball jackpot, AP reports." None of the winners is my relative. Whoaaaaaaa!!!

Anyway, the winning numbers were 15, 17, 43, 44 and 48, with a Powerball number of 29! The eight winners, who chose to take the lump sum total of $124.1 million after taxes, or $15.5 million apiece, were:

  1. Chasity Rutjens, 29, single
  2. Eric Zornes, 40, a retired maintenance mechanic for about four days now
  3. Quang Dao, a Vietnames 56-year-old father of four boys and one girl, came to the United States from Vietnam in 1990
  4. Dung Tran, 34, a Vietnamese immigrant who has lived in the United States for 16 years
  5. Alain Maboussou, a 26-year-old
  6. Rob Stewart, 30
  7. David Gehle, 53
  8. Michael Terpstra, 47, who has been working at the plant for 16 years

In the Philippines, lottery winners get their prize LUMP SUM as the actual JACKPOT PRIZE and take note, it's TAX-FREE. I just wonder why winners in the USA don't get the actual value of what they win for?

You're playing also in a lottery? Wow! Include me as one of your lottery beneficiaries!

Yummy :-)

I was listening to a local radio show that said the lottery should be sued for false advertising.

Most people here know that they will only get 1/3 to 1/2 if they take lump sum payment. Actually I think you could get a better return investing the money than the government would give. Anyway I'll take anything I can win in a lottery as it would be more than I have now. :-)
