::Ist Sunday of Lent

Sunday, March 05, 2006

In spite of going to bed late last night, I woke up at five and took a shower. We arrived in the Sto. Niño Chapel just on time and I lighted three candles just before the mass started.

Today is the 1st Sunday of Lent. FR. Rocco Viviano, an Italian Xaverian priest, said the mass again in Tagalog using Sambuhay's missalette: Kaayusan at Biyaya sa Gitna ng Kalituhan at Kaguluhan.

"What we do during this Lenten season, essential to Lent is our resolve to begin anew to realize that we are people of the New and Everlasting Covenant in Christ's Blood."*

Today's LITURGY OF THE WORD:

ON FAST AND ABSTINENCE
Catholics age 14 and older abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday, and all Fridays during Lent. Also on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, Catholics from age 18-59 fast by limiting themselves to one full meal and two smaller meals on those days.*

butterfly Let me know you were here, your thoughts are welcome!

Glad you got up early and attended. You have been really dedicated in attending each week and I am very happy about that.

The first reading concerns Noah getting ready for the flood that will cleanse the world. The second reading relates Noah's flood and baptism, by saying the water washes away sin.

Our gospel concerning Jesus 40 days in the desert with the demons and the angels. He had to fight the demons that were trying to pull him away from God. Our priest related that to bad influences, both people and bad habits. He wanted us to examine who we hang out with and what we do.

He wanted us to hang out with good people and do good things. All in all it was a very good message.
