Whether I will make it to the Finals or not, let's keep our fingers crossed!

:: Bandwidth Limit

Wednesday, September 29, 2004

Ploghost's bot sent this last week: "The domain ladylaila.net has reached 80% of its bandwidth limit. Please contact the system admin as soon as possible." Just last month, I have upgraded my webhosting plan because in the past three consecutive months, my site was inaccessible when it exceeded its bandwidth limit.

Here is ladylaila.net's monthly visits history for this year:

ladylaila.net monthly history

I'd thought only 5 people are visiting my blog everyday... and, it's been a long time I neglected visiting my site's control panel.

And here is an interesting stats I found, the top 25 unique visitors of my site for the month of September 2004:

:: College Algebra

Tuesday, September 28, 2004

My daughter sought my assistance in her College Algebra homework. If you know the solution to this motion problem, I will appreciate it. I have less than eight hours to find out the answer. I was good in Algebra before, but my memory isn't working well...

Anyone?

Distance = (rate)(time), or d = rt

From this equation we can derive the associated relationships:

r = d / t , t = d / r

PROBLEM: Two men are 10 mi apart. If they start walking at noon on one straight road at the rate of 3 km/hr and 2 km/hr, find the time they will be 2 miles apart.

ANSWER: 1:36PM, 2:24PM

My daughter wanted me to provide the solution but my mind and memory are not working... can you help?

:: Happy 70th Birthday, Papa!

Sunday, September 26, 2004

Today is my father's 70th Birthday. Happy Birthday, Papa! Sorry if Pacette and Bhoie were not able to make it. Pacette was very ill and she didn't liked us all to get sick from her and Bhoie was on his flight back to Jeddah.

As usual, Papa was stubborn enough not to invite his friends after he found out Bhoie will not cancel his flight to attend Papa's birthday. I know Papa's acting strange these days but, I prefer not to elaborate further why. Enough that we did our best and pushed through with the celebration.

The wife of Junjun, Tintin, was with me along with her two sisters. We arrived late because I ran short of cash and it wasn't easy to look for Allied Bank ATM near us. Pacette caused the delay also when we waited for her until 1:00 o'clock in the afternoon but she didn't showed up. Pacette, please get well soon...

It feels good my father was giving me importance by waiting for me before they started the celebration. Why I said this? Because he cares about his sons more than his daughters!

Guess what? I brought my digital camera but, I forgot to take some photos when I got involved with my sister's visitors about politics issues. We both didn't liked the two women presidents. The interesting conversation lasted for 2 hours.

We need to go home as my daughter sent SMS to buy her urgently ink cartridge for Epson stylus c32sx or HP deskjet 820Cxi. Epson black and colored ink cost me Php1,150.00! Shopping was not in my priority list for this week because I used my budget for my father's birthday celebration but, anyway, I got some grocery items for two weeks consumptions and sent Int'l Roaming eLoad to Junjun! There were many shoppers and strollers at SM North Edsa and looking at those people who bought many things, I couldn't help but asked, how many among them are like us who were forced to sell the property in order to survive....

Sometimes, special occasions brought sad memories and family disputes but, I did my part to control my temper in honor of Papa's birthday. My mother and Ate Neth knew very well the real story and whatever my youngest sister was gossiping against me, may God help her be enlightened.

I love my siblings, yet, I wonder why jealousy in her heart should be a burden to a better relationship. I prayed for them everyday and I wish Beh will remember that she already asked for forgiveness few years back. There's no need to repeat the same mistakes over and over again just to make her believe she's doing better than me.

Beh, please appreciate that I'm your elder sister and in my own special way, I played my part very well and helped our parents according to my means. If you are reading this, please release that hatred in your heart. There is no way you can put me down by telling evil things (you made) about me. You have three daughters and I didn't liked you to pass unto them your sins.

:: Spyware

Windows XP is infected with spyware virus and we cannot use internet explorer anymore nor run windows update. The malicious virus redirected all URLs to download spyware and ad aware softwares.

I suspected Paul Denise got this virus when he downloaded some ringing tunes two weeks ago.

I had difficulty running any programs, like Yahoo! messenger for example, that's associated with internet explorer because three popup windows launched uncontrollably each time someone sent me a message.

Glad I am using Mozilla browser for surfing and Trillian messenger to communicate!

Today, Randy paid US$15.00 to Jay Campbell, owner of BlogShares Fantasy Stock Market, for my BlogShares bandwidth usage. Earlier, Jay gifted me a premium membership and that's how I easily reached BlogShares' 4th Richest Player.

To Jay and Randy, thank you very much!

:: RE: Apology Letter

I notified my mail server on Fri, 24 Sep 2004 02:10:54 +0800 that their pop mail is not working and my outgoing mails kept undelivered:

"Please improve your e-mail service features. It's causing me so much inconvenience and my mails were delayed like Philippine Airlines flights*... what's going on?"

*Disclaimer: Philippine Airlines has no right to file libel case against me for posting the above comments about their service. It's the impression of many of PAL's pax, not only mine...

:: Bhoie's Children

Friday, September 24, 2004

I had a very busy Friday afternoon running here and there, not to mention that Junjun, my son, was also online on Yahoo! messenger. Junjun wants me to send him some blankets and jackets to Riyadh before the change of season. He doesn't have time to go around the city to buy some stuffs.

My brother, Bhoie, and his children visited us this afternoon. He will be leaving to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Sunday and he brought his children with him to show them where we reside. His sons, Elijah and Ericson, are taller than me now, in fact, even taller than Paul Denise, and they are only less than 15 years old!

It's unfortunate that Bhoie cannot make it on Papa's birthday, which is the same day of his flight, September 26th. Papa was upset two weeks ago that Nasser and Bhoie won't be there on his birthday and he wanted us to cancel his birthday party. Papa is planning to invite some new friends to his party and wish to introduce his sons. He blatantly commented that if his boys won't be there, he didn't like a party celebration anymore. In Chinese family, they only give importance to the boys, and this matter sometimes made me feel bad. Papa cared so much about his boys but, when it comes to his basic needs, we (his daughters), were quick enough to provide help and assistance.

Anyway, good luck Bhoie and have a safe journey. We love you even Papa loves you more than us...

:: Sampung Mga Daliri Project

Angelito Songco sent me e-mail on 9/24/2004 8:09 PM and informed me of his interest to solicit support on his Sampung Mga Daliri Project next month, October. He said they are planning to film a documentary video featuring the rights of Filipino children.

I still have to verify the authenticity of this project and in case this plan will push through, I'm going to make a new blog about this...

:: GrownUps

Thursday, September 23, 2004

My son, Paul Denise arrived late this evening once again. He's not drunk this time and my daughter believes he had fun with the company of his girl friend. He brought with him a dozen of chocolate coated Mister Donuts for me and Sweety Pearl, sort of bribery???

This is not the first time I stayed home the whole day alone but what's killing me, I told him I need him immediately after class dismissal because I was bored seeing my bed facing north and my computer table facing east. Since I was serious moving my bed and PC, I did it all by myself late this afternoon. Yes, why not? I was doing that since they were young and I should not expect they will do it for me now that they are grownups. I know things would have been easier for me if my eldest son, Junjun, is with us. Junjun is on his own now working in Saudi Arabia since 5 months ago.

My son, Junjun, wherever you are right now, whatever you are doing, may God keep you safe and well always. We are missing you a lot. Paul Denise is not attending to us just like the way you used to but, the sweets your brother brought home made me realized he cares about us, too, and expresses it in a different manner I least expected.

Somehow, there's so many reasons to thank God for having you all in my life. Now that you're all grownups now... I'm sure you can take good care of yourselves!

:: Cellphone Theft

Wednesday, September 22, 2004

My sister, Pacette, and her daughter, Mary Grace, arrived at noon today from SSS. They sought legal assistance from Public Attorneys' Office (PAO) in Quezon City Hall against illegal dismissal of her husband by his abusive employer and for failure to give the separation pay.

Mary Grace, my niece, fortunately was accepted as cashier in a known fast food outlet and needs some financial assistance to complete her certification requirements. Pacette's son, Mark, was robbed few days ago of his hard-earned 15 days salary, his work uniform and cellphone were inside his bag when bad guys snatched his belongings while waiting for a bus to go home. After few days, they were calling the mobile's number and begging the 'current owner' of Mark's cellphone to return, at least, his uniform and company ID so that they do not have to pay for lawyer's fee for the execution of Affidavit of Loss. But the holder of his cellphone warned them not to call her 'number' as it does not belong to Mark anymore. Shocked, this kind of news made me feel very, very angry with those unkind people. Cellphone theft should be stopped and something must be done to prosecute these snatchers whose victimizing poor people like my nephew.

I feel sorry for my nephew's fate, really. My sister told me they just borrowed the money for the deposit of her son's uniform only to be robbed off by people who prefer to steal someone else' money instead of working hard and earn a living fairly.

May God bless those who are suffering right now from their losses and return to them what they have lost a thousand fold. Amen.

:: A Complete Turn Off

Monday, September 20, 2004

If you are added on my list or at least, have tried to send me instant message either on Yahoo! or ICQ, you know about my auto-reply message. Most incoming messages never get a secondary reply from me unless someone says something interesting.

I believe it's in my discretion whether I will reply to any messages sent to me or not. Although my profile is for public viewing which is provided to friends and families, it does not mean, I am a public property nor must I share with anyone my precious time. So what if my life is like an open book? Informations are there because I must save time telling people the same story over and over again. Why some people just cannot understand that?

:: YEAH FOR OPRAH

Sunday, September 19, 2004

Bilal al Basit had been forwarding useful informations through e-mails but, the latest one he sent me looks spam to me and suspicious. After googling about Tommy Hilfiger, I found out the e-mail circulating was a chain letter against this fashion designer. What I did, I copied some articles, hit reply to Bilal's e-mail and pasted something about the chain letter correction then sent it to him. I hope he got my message clear not to forward damaging contents against anyone without verifying the credibility of the message.

Here are related articles about Tommy Hilfiger:

If you are reading this and you made it a habit to forward mails you received from friends without thinking or verifying its content, it's about time you stop spreading chain letters... may this post serves as a reminder.

Below is the copy of his message:

*** Start of chain letter ***

YEAH FOR OPRAH

Good for Oprah !!!! I'm sure many of you watched the recent taping of The Oprah Winfrey show where her guest was "Tommy Hilfiger".

On the show, she asked him if the statements about race he was accused of saying were true.

Statements like : "... if I'd known African Americans, Hispanics, Jews and Asians would buy my clothes, I would not have made them so nice.. I wish these people would *NOT* buy my clothes, as they are made for upper class white people."

His answer to Oprah was a simple "YES". Where after she immediately asked him to leave her show.

My suggestion ? Don't buy your next shirt or Perfume from Tommy Hilfiger. Let's give him what he asked for. Let's not buy his clothes. Let's put him in a financial state where he himself will not be able to afford the ridiculous prices he puts on his clothes.

BOYCOTT PLEASE, & SEND THIS MESSAGE TO ANYONE YOU KNOW !!!!!

*** End of chain letter ***

Today is my sister's birthday, Happy 41st Birthday, Beh!

:: Bhoie visited us

Wednesday, September 15, 2004

My brother, Bhoie, the oldest among the boys, visited me with his daughter, Alex Andrea. He needed informations from his Encarta CD some facts about Canada but, his PC had technical problems.

They arrived at lunch time, meat wasn't ready so we had Chow King Lauriat instead. It's been many years since I last saw Bhoie when he came to visit us in Parañaque City. He looks matured now and had lost that baby face looks. Ah! We're all getting older while our children are fast growing...

When Sweety Pearl arrived home, she installed the CD, summarize the document file, saved, and printed them while I was busy cooking dinner. The research paper was for his wife, Tess, who is currently attending a Care-Giving class and the paper has to be submitted tomorrow as part of her requirements.

:: Birthday Greetings, Pacette!

Happy 43rd Birthday, Pacette!

Bhoie told me that you won in a jueteng bet on Saturday. How come you never told me about this when we were together on Sunday? Anyway, our planned party for Papa's birthday should be finalized one day ahead of time.

Sana, next time, sa Lotto ka naman manalo, para may balato kaming lahat...

:: Grocery

Sunday, September 12, 2004

Pacette, my sister, had lunch with us this Sunday and she's the one who cooked adobo Chicken and I cooked my specialty, a KFC-like fried chicken. We seldom cook vegetables as Paul Denise didn't like to eat them.

Since the kids were busy, Pacette accompanied me first to Smart Wireless Center to buy international roaming load for Junjun and later went to SM supermarket. I was careful with my budget and limited the goods we bought based on their importance but still, I paid too much with one cart of grocery items!

On our way home, Junjun sent a message thanking me for the load I sent him. He's fine in general in spite of the fact he's having problems dealing with his foreign co-workers.

:: Haiku on Bots at BlogShares

Saturday, September 11, 2004

Wish I have a bot
One, to do my household chores
Two, to blog for me

So that I can play
Concentrate well on game play
Twenty hours a day

If I have a bot
Why expected ideas
Bought by someone else?

Mostly by Stan
Or by Linn Skinner at
Ideas Market

I kept reloading
Waiting for rare ideas
But, lost it to them

Recent experience
Prompted me to change style
Testing my speed

That's my story
If I can't get those rare ones
I will get the rest!

:: The Balcony

Thursday, September 09, 2004

While hanging our clothes to dry in the balcony, I received a text message from my son asking me to pass him a load. And I had thought to take a photo of the balcony since the sun is shining well this morning.

View of Balcony

This is the front view of the Balcony (open hallway) while I was standing at the main door of our occupied unit. Whenever I was bored waiting for the kids to arrive home, I wait for them patiently here in the balcony.

View of Balcony

This is where I dry our clothes. The unfinished building with a white painted roof is where we hear the Sunday mass. This church is still under construction until now.

View of Balcony

This is the right portion of the balcony. The hallway is spacious and I have two chairs and table here where I sometimes had my breakfast. This is where I sent the kids, too, whenever I was moody and I didn't like them to smoke inside the house.

:: Hello :-)

Wednesday, September 08, 2004

Got no luck updating this blog this afternoon as a transformer in a nearby area exploded and I have lost my entry. I had been offline for 5 hours!

I was sickly these past few days and they advised me to fall in love soon. Well, it was a joke and I know my sickness is weather related. Although it's currently a rainy season in the Philippines, humidity is higher. Also, since I have high metabolism, I sweat a lot while doing household chores. Guess I have to cut my hair short until to my shoulder level? Nah, the truth is, I was lazy to take vitamins... whatever!

There is a need to improve not only the categories of this blog but it's skin and layout. However, I am not sure if I am ready to shift to the latest version of MT. Afonso suggested Expression engine but, I need more time and dedication in learning any software.

Anyway, this is a warm message just to let my faithful readers that I am online most of the day but, got addicted with BlogShares practicing my typing skills...

:: You accuse me of using a bot??

Sunday, September 05, 2004

I posted this in Blogshares Forum, time stamped on September 04, 2004, 08:18:36 am:

I received a PM from one of the players whose fast enough to buy rare ideas which I patiently waited would appear at Ideas Market. And this was the content of his message:

"Just checked out some people's transactions as I was getting bored with looking at a blank ideas screen, and guess what I found:"

"User: Laila*, 44 ideas transactions between 08:04:23 and 08:06:46. I think that's roughly one every three seconds."

"I guess you're a really fast typist, huh?"

In case you're also monitoring my profile, or simply just want to know what I told him, please PM me. I couldn't post my trade secret in public but, willing to share to those who are interested.

Humans are definitely better than bots...

After barely 30 minutes of submitted post, I received PM from BlogShares moderators, Alan Dean and Just James and I told them my trade secrets. After probably exchange of talks between the two, Alan Dean posted this message, forum time stamped on September 04, 2004, 11:19:14 am:

"We've had a look at Laila's account and seen no cause for concern. The trading on this account has the hallmarks of a normal, aggressive player."

What's the catch? Some smart players auctioned BlogShares Dollars (B$) and BlogShares Chips for real money at eBay! It's not a rumor, it's for real! Instead of spending time building up wealth, anyone can be an instant trillionaire with instant chips and B$ cash to play the game - no sweat and kiss those red eyes goodbye...

:: How Business is planned and Done

I received this from Bilal Basit. Thank you Bilal for keeping in touch and sending nice stuffs to me. Because of Bilal's initiative, I'd like to share this to all of you:

Jack, a smart businessman, talks to his son.

Jack: "I want you to marry a girl of my choice."
Son: "I will choose my own bride!"
Jack: "But the girl is Bill Gates's daughter."
Son: "Well, in that case..."

Next, Jack approaches Bill Gates.

Jack: "I have a husband for your daughter."
Bill Gates: "But my daughter is too young to marry!"
Jack: "But this young man is a vice-president of the World Bank."
Bill Gates: "Ah, in that case..."

Finally, Jack goes to see the president of the World Bank.

Jack: "I have a young man to recommend as a vice-president."
President: "But I already have more vice- presidents than I need!"
Jack: "But this young man is Bill Gates's son-in-law."
President: "Ah, in that case..."
