Annulment Cost

Tuesday, January 31, 2006

I had a busy but promising day today.

When I notarized N 3660's Affidavit of Loss, I had thought to drop by at Mr. Matabang's office, who is the Chairman of Civil Registry and author of RA 9048. He was the one who helped me corrected typographical errors on my birth record in 2003. I mentioned to him about my annulment concern and he told me Atty. D can explain well what possible expenses I might involved myself with.

She said that some considerate lawyers will charge lower than others. Upon hearing from her the annulment cost, I realized it will be impossible to minimum wage earners who are earning less than US$200.00 a month to avail a lawyer's service.

And, oh! Atty. D revealed an interesting fact about fake marriages. If you had been married in the Philippines, the only way to verify whether yours is a valid marriage is when you verify and request for certification from the issuing office where you had your marriage and find out if the marriage license number has been issued under your name and your spouse name.

God's Word & National Renewal

Sunday, January 29, 2006

Mother and I arrived few minutes late for the one and only 7 a.m. Sunday mass held in Sto. Niño Chapel near where we live.

Today is the fourth Sunday in ordinary time and today's homily is about Who is God and who are the Christians, in celebration of the Bible Week. FR. Rocco Viviano, an Italian Xaverian priest, said the mass in Tagalog using Sambuhay's missalette: Ang Salita Ng Diyos at Pambansang Pagbabago (God's Word and National Renewal). FR. Viviano explained the two structures of the Holy Mass: the Liturgy of the Word (Scripture readings) and Liturgy of the Eucharist (begins when bread and wine are brought to the altar), and how God communicates to us.

The regular Holy Mass has the following structure:

  1. Introductory rites
  2. The Liturgy of the Word
  3. The Liturgy of the Eucharist
  4. The Communion rite
  5. Concluding rite

Today's LITURGY OF THE WORD:

  • First Reading (Dt 18:15-20) (Sit): In Israel no one was like Moses, prophet and lawgiver. But Moses himself declares that God will raise a prophet not only like him but even greater. His prophecy finds fulfillment in Jesus.
  • Second Reading (1 Cor 7:32-35): Paul gives some concrete ways of serving Jesus. While he places no restrictions, Paul believes that unmarried Christians like him can devote themselves entirely to the Lord.

I lighted 3 candles again today. And, I thanked those who prayed for my youngest sister, Beh, who left on Monday for employment abroad.

Is 3G For Real?

Friday, January 27, 2006

The inconvenience of shopping without a cellphone had been annoying me.

Lately, I had been window shopping for a 3G cellphone to buy since I was upset that most mobile phone retailers do not sell N 3660 anymore. Subscription Plan 1200 with Smart Communications has FREE N 6260 unit under special new connect package until the 31st of January, for 24 months contract. I was hesitant to get a higher plan to get a free N 6630 (Plan 1800), N 6680 (Plan 2500), or N 70 (Plan 3500), all units have faster connectivity and high-speed browsing with WCDMA (wireless code division multiple access) and EDGE technologies. However, in case of cellphone theft, I am obliged to pay more than the cost of the said unit.

Anyway, I had been wondering whether 3G is for real? 3G is shorthand for the next generation of mobile communications networks running on the WCDMA platform. On January 18, 2005, Smart Communications Inc. (SMART) announced that it has signed an agreement with Nokia for the supply of Third Generation (3G) networks technology equipment and services. Smart demonstrated its readiness to offer a full-range of 3G services in a live demo at an international conference in Cebu in November 2005. And I was told yesterday it will be formally launched in March 2006. I foresee prices of regular cellphones to drop once 3G technology is available but buying a dual camera unit will only work if the other party use the same kind of cellphone.

Ahhhh, I wouldn't worry about all these things if my cellphone had not been stolen!!!

There is a free 3G demo at the following SMART Wireless Centers: SMART Tower, Alabang Town Center, EDSA Shangri-La Mall, Powerplant Rockwell and SM Cebu. Smart 3G demo will also be available at SM Megamall and SM North EDSA SMART Wireless Centers.

Blocking Nokia 3660 IMEI

Thursday, January 26, 2006

Pacette, my younger sister, went to National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) office and blocked my Nokia 3660's International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) past 1 this afternoon.

We went then to Smart Communications to block my SIM number but, they no longer block buddy cellphone numbers. However, they told me they can deactivate the stolen SIM card if I will request for SIM replacement by just submitting 2 valid IDs, Affidavit of Loss, and SIM casing/PUK pad. I also found out from Customer Care that the robber's last call made from my stolen cellphone was Globe line +639174488122 at 01:34 pm 26 Jan 2006. My cellphone's IMEI had been blocked with NTC at past 1 p.m. and the culprit was unable to place more calls after that time, leaving Php140.00 credit balance. I was tempted to call the number but, Paul Denise advised me to leave the matter up to him.

According to NTC agent, most stolen cellphones reported today were from shopping malls. Didn't know if it is true what a taxi driver once told me that those security guards in the mall were also accomplice in shopping mall crimes because they also received incentives from the robbers.

Stolen Nokia 3660

Tuesday, January 24, 2006

Of all people, I had been victimized by pickpocket syndicate roaming around the vicinity of SM North Edsa supermarket. I haven't noticed when someone sneaked into the side pocket of my black handbag while I was busy buying a big Lapu-lapu fish. The culprit got my ugly maroon Nokia 3660 cellphone without sweat but, fortunately, the Php 12,000 cash was still there!

As I claimed the Lapu-lapu, I pushed the cart to Monterey Meat Section when I noticed the side pocket of my bag was open. I checked and found out that my cellphone wasn't there. I rushed to Tintin to ask if my cellphone was with her but she told me she returned it to me after she text Mama to cook rice. She called my cellphone and it was ringing. The second attempt failed. We rushed to the Customer Service but their Security men were lousy and unable to help. Customer Service kept reminding shoppers to watch their bags carefully which I did but, unfortunately the robber was a professional one. I was upset and discontinued my shopping!

The said cellphone has my name and address saved on template. I'm giving the robber a chance to return it to me until tomorrow before I finally block its IMEI with NTC. My sim card has over Php 650 load.

Meanwhile, we have now a lone SuperLotto winner this evening winning Php150,478,099.20 with the following combination: 18 11 41 43 6 47. The said amount is higher than what Pacquiao receives from winning the WBC International Super Featherweight Title.

Bible Week

I woke up as early as 5:30 a.m. this time when Paul Denise shuts down modem in my room. Mother and I then attended the 7 a.m. mass in Sto. Niño Chapel.

Today is the third Sunday in ordinary time and today's homily is about The Bible and Jesus: Ignorance of the Bible is ignorance about Jesus. The mass was held by Fr. Romulo Bueno in Tagalog using Sambuhay's missalette: Ang Daan Sa Gawain ng Diyos (A Pedagogy on God's Work).

National Bible Week is on January 23-29, 2006: Power for National Renewal.

Today's LITURGY OF THE WORD:

  • First Reading (Jon 3:1-5, 10) (Sit): The story of Jonah tells us that sinners are not doomed to disaster. By choosing to repent and change their ways, the Ninevites changed their fate.
  • Second Reading (1 Cor 7:29-31): Because time is short and this world is passing away, Paul tells us not to set our hearts on this world but to live according to the values of the kingdom.

I lighted 3 candles again but this time, I brought my own candles: One is for faster confirmation of my sister's flight abroad for employment purposes; second was for the welfare of my family and third, for the swift success of my 'divorce'.

ManHunt?

Thursday, January 19, 2006

While waiting for the result of 128 M LOTTOmania this evening, these four Magdalo mutineers captured my attention, who are now wanted for the recent jailbreak from the Fort Bonifacio Army Headquarters in Makati City late Tuesday:

Magdalo

GMA's SAKSI late evening news reported that fellow soldiers helped in mutineers jailbreak according to their lawyer. Whether the above mutineers escaped or someone let them escape, Lt. Sg. Antonio Trillanes had this message:

Magdalo

I can smell something fishy going on in the next days to come but, I am not interested to make a stand, whether I want GMA out or allow her to CHA-CHA. Since no one wins the SuperLotto 6/49 winning combination 24 36 40 4 48 5 this evening, I would rather do some calculations and lots of guesses what possible lucky numbers will make me an instant millionaire on its next draw.

Another Sore Throat

I woke up this morning with a sore throat.

Well, the sore throat is not weather-related but because for the past two consecutive days, we had been messing with our voices singing to the max. Daughter bought Sakura WT3030 Multi DVD Player with song book and 2 Ballantine's VA-9500 KTV microphone two days ago from Santech Electronic & Music Center Co., 632-634 G. Puyat St., Quiapo Manila Tel. no. 7341824.

Last Tuesday, I had a concert with Pacette, Denise, Ana and her daughter, Tricia while yesterday, Denise, Beh and Pearl joined me in annoying our neighbors' eardrums. We all had fun but, at the same time, we had sore throats.

Today, I doubted whether I can sing another song...

Sto. Niño

Mother and I woke up as early as 6 a.m. and we attended the 7 a.m. mass in a nearby church.

Today is the second Sunday in ordinary time and today's homily is about Sto. Niño. The mass was in Tagalog but Sambuhay (mass guide) has English version also.

The Filipinos' veneration of the Child Jesus, the Sto. Niño, may be seen from the joyous celebration of Sinulog, Dinagyang, Ati-atihan, and other colorful festivals* in the Philippines.

Today's LITURGY OF THE WORD:

  • First Reading (Is 9:1-6) (Sit): Isaiah prophesies that through the child who shall be called Prince of Peace, God will grant peace and rejoicing to his people.
  • Second Reading (Eph 1:3-6, 15-18): God loves us and has made us his adopted children in Christ. Paul reminds us to live up to our dignity by leading a holy and blameless life.

I lighted 3 candles today: One is for faster recovery of Randy's friend, Emilio Valdez and his child; second was for the welfare of my family and third, for my sister, Beh, who is in a big financial crisis right now.

Friday, the 13th

Friday, January 13, 2006

Who said that Friday, the 13th is an unlucky day and causes fear ((known as paraskevidekatriaphobia)? When I woke up this morning, I was happy to find out that water service is finally restored contrary to what I was told few days back when I called 1626!

On the lighter side, I got this e-mail from Jan Campbell:

"Eleven people were hanging on a rope under a helicopter, ten men and one woman. The rope was not strong enough to carry them all, so they decided that one had to leave, because otherwise they were all going to fall."

"They weren't able to name that person, until the woman gave a very touching speech. She said that she would voluntarily let go of the rope, because, as a woman, she was used to giving up everything for her husband and kids, or for men in general, and was used to always making sacrifices with little in return. As soon as she finished her speech, all men started clapping their hands..."

Waterless Metro

Tuesday, January 10, 2006

Low water pressure is now being experienced in our area and I had been busy fetching water since yesterday afternoon filling up every container available. Starting tonight, most parts of Metro Manila will be waterless until midnight of Saturday due to replacement of MWSS Aqueduct located in Norzagaray, Bulacan.

To know schedule of water rationing in Metro Manila, call 1626 or 09187001626.

Update on Sarah

I received a call this afternoon from Riel Andaluz c/o Save the Children - Philippines chapter. She explained to me they were able to read our invitation for Sarah last Christmas today only due to their Holiday break and that Randy, being the sponsor, should fill out Sponsor Visit Application form. I also received a copy of her email to Randy:

"We received the letter you had intended for Sarah inviting her and her family last Christmas. We regret that we have only received the letter today and thus were not able to arrange your meeting with your sponsored child and her family. After reading the letter, I immediately contacted Laila and learned more about your plan. As may have mentioned to you by Laila, due to the recent holiday, we were not able to pick up mails from our PO Box."

Riel visited this blog and have read my 'LUNCH WITH THE ORPHANS' entry. I told her since we didn't meet Sarah Alea on December 25th, we decided to treat other kids instead. Anyway, after filling out a Sponsor Visit Application form, we might be able to meet Ma. Sarah Estrada Alea in person soon.

JJLHS '78 Class Get-Together

Saturday, January 07, 2006

Two days ago, I received a Typhoon.PH SMS Message from Paul David Kerr Chan: "Laila, would u like to join our class get together on Saturday 2pm. Pls call me at this number: -------" After exchanging communications with Monico Faller and Paul through text messages and phone calls, today is the big day! We, the Judge Juan Luna High School IV-Rizal Class '78, had a get-together party at Col. Wed Iglesia's residence.

Since we graduated in 1978, I had not seen all my classmates anymore except Paul, who visited us few years back in my Parañaque residence. Whoaaa, it's been 28 years had passed before I took this courage to meet them? Couple of times they held HomeComing but, in spite of Ate Neth's notice, I didn't dare to attend. I was ashamed to face my then professional school mates because I didn't continue my studies in college aside from having a failed marriage.

At Wed Iglesia's residence (Camp Crame), I met his pretty wife, Gay, and their beautiful children. Their place made us feel comfortable and at home instantly. As expected, they were surprised to see me and how I changed from the silent type girl to a lively lady! Meeting those new faces and new personalities brought back memories but, of all people, I didn't recognized Malou Runes, who was then our class muse in 1977-78. She's big time now, and my schoolmates called her Judge Runes!

Most of them brought their children with them. Ah! Funny how time flies. My children ages are 26, 24, and 22 compared with their small ones. It's nice to see those children playing around while the big boys were busy singing their favorite songs. The big girls (us) spent some time exchanging news about each other until we had our dinner. The big boys were enjoying the sing-along with their San Miguel Beers. Gay later taught us how to make butterflies out of cut-out pages taken from Mabuhay Inflight magazine when Famarie and Malou left. Bert, who brought some 12 bottles of honey is an agrilculture graduate. He sold us some honey and I bought only two, for PHP300. Wed gave us some packed CDO giveaways.

Rizelle, who graduated as JJLHS Valedictorian, will try to get in touch with JJLHS teachers so that we could hold another Homecoming. We had taken this photo as a remembrance:

JJLHS Class '78

Let me identify us, from left:
Me, of course
Grace Javier
Judge Marilou "Malou" Runes
Ma. Rizelle Joven-Palad
Famarie "Famie" Basa-Battung
Monico Faller
Paul David Kerr Chan
Col. Edgardo "Wed" Iglesia
Virgilio Sedanto
Albert "Albee" Marcia
Antonio "Tony" Paraiso
Edgar "Ed" Inamarga
Chito Salvador

I would like to thank Paul for giving me a ride to Wed's place. With him was Grace, Tess (his pretty wife), and two lovely children. Many thanks also to Ed Inamarga, who dropped me home. He also lives in Project 8 area and running a packaging business.

I enjoyed our get-together party and hopefully, I will get in touch also with those who failed to join us. The IV- Rizal class 1977-78 had about 45 students (if I am not mistaken).

Medical Tourism

Friday, January 06, 2006

GMA7's 24 Oras featured on their news segment about Philippine Medical Tourism Program, a private-public initiative aimed at attracting international patients to the Philippines for needed medical care which was created through Executive Order No. 372 by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo last October 2004.

medical tourism

Philippine Medical Tourism website defines medical tourism as a trend wherein citizens of wealthy nations in the west and the middle-east travel to other countries for medical and healthcare services along with rest and recreation. It is the result of skyrocketing private medical care in the United States, as well as long waiting period in the national health systems of some European countries. It is also the product of improved medical skills, technology, and facilities in the developing world.

PlogHost Plan Upgrade

Thursday, January 05, 2006

Since last two months, my blog failed to display pages correctly and I cannot upload images anymore. I kept rebuilding the entire MT templates to display full index page almost everyday. Whenever someone posted a comment, index page was missing again.

I had thought it's about time to upgrade to paid version of MT until Abe Olandres informed me the possible reason: "Once you run out of web space, your sites will lock up. This is the reason why MT is cranking up on you."

Domain Hosting for Ladylaila.net is now Php9174.00 a year for Plan RH 1GB Special.
