You are here in this page because you do not know what does resolution means. It is amazing that there are still some people who do not understand what desktop resolution means.

Allow me then to explain. Most web designers have difficulty creating a perfect site for our home page because users have varieties of settings:

Monitor sizes:

  • The standard size for desk top monitor is 14 inches. Normal setting of this is either a 640 X 480 pixels or a 800 X 600 pixels. If you have noticed that some websites are too big for your screen and you kept on scrolling left and right, chances are, you have to change your desktop settings to meet the desired settings by the web site you are visiting. Sometimes, the author will remind viewers the resolution size to best view their work. If you are scrolling to see the entire page, just change your desktop settings to enjoy viewing the page you are visiting. I will tell you later how.
  • With the existence of better monitors to meet the multimedia requirements of web surfers, monitor sizes are now available from 14"up to 28". The bigger the monitor, the higher the resolution there is.
  • Desktop monitors are of different sizes. Since I am using a Mag 17" monitor, this is the available settings that I can choose from:
    • 640 X 480
    • 800 X 600 (i choose this when editing my page)
    • 1024 x 768 (this is my default setting)
    • 1152 X 864
    • 1280 X 960
  • How to change this? Minimize all your open windows, right click desktop, and select properties>settings>screen area and select your desired settings. Not all monitors have these settings available, that depends on the size of your desktop and whether you have a 24-bit, 32-bit or a 64-bit video card.

Type of Browsers:

  • Explorer, Netscape, and Opera are three commonly used browsers but if you think the web page you are viewing will display the same in other browsers, you are wrong. I didn't know about this before. But, if you are creating a web page and you consider yourself a newbie, you might as well consider right now to test your work with these 3 major browsers and you will find out that your javascript will not work well with other browsers.
  • Some HTML Editor programs provide Browser Detection/Platform Detection scripts to display page correctly.

My Photo Album is now set at 1024 X 768 resolution. To view it properly, you have the option to change your settings, if you cannot view the page correctly.

Goodluck. :-)
